Precautions Pregnant Women Need To Take When Travelling

Travelling while pregnant can be an uncomfortable. Pregnancy itself is uncomfortable without having to sit for long hours during a journey. To make sure you are comfortable while traveling by bus, by train, by plane or by car you can try some easy tips. These include:

· Plan your travel

It is important to plan to travel in the early weeks of the pregnancy. The best or safest time to travel is between your 18th week and 24th week of pregnancy. You should also consult your doctor on the condition of your pregnancy to determine the best time for you to travel. Depending on the purpose of your travel the doctor can advice for or against the travel.

· Go for a check-up

It is crucial that you go for a check-up before you travel to get the necessary vaccination and advice on how to remain healthy. The doctor evaluates whether or not to vaccinate because pregnant women are vulnerable and are easily infected. The destination also determines whether or not you need to be vaccinated.

Pregnant women are advised against travelling to malaria infected areas. Malaria can cause major health issues.

· Wear comfortable clothes

While travelling it is important to dress comfortably. You should wear flat comfortable shoes and a free dress that does not constrain you in any way. You can invest in some support stocking that will reduce clotting. You can carry some extra clothes in your bag in case you need to change.

· Empty your bladder

Before travelling, you should empty your bladder. This is important especially when travelling by bus. Avoid eating while travelling because this might cause stomach upsets as you travel. If you do, eat low fat meals that are less nauseating. You should also carry a bottle of mineral water to drink as you travel.

It is important to be hydrated as you travel. Also stretch whenever you can. Sitting down for too long can make you very uncomfortable so you need to keep standing once in a while to stretch.

· Make a packing list

Make a list to use when packing, this will guarantee you do not leave anything important behind. You should also travel with your medical documents in case you need to use them. Pack light as you travel. You do not want to walk around pregnant with a heavy load.

These basic tips will help guide you as you plan to travel. Remember to first consult with your doctor before undertaking your journey. Remember to carry your bus tickets, train tickets or plane tickets. The moment you forget the ticket, you cannot travel.
